The Energy from Waste Program integrates seamlessly into the broader waste management strategy of Ras Al Khaimah. It focuses on promoting energy outcomes for the available waste. Two to three priority treatment options have been identified for every waste stream available in Ras Al Khaimah, and useful energy resources such as electricity, heat or alternative fuels may be produced using various waste to energy technologies.
Regulations to encourage the use of alternative fuels derived from waste in industrial applications and for electricity production would also enable alternative fuel production and exploitation at a commercial scale.
At least 2% of the primary energy demand of Ras Al Khaimah will be fulfilled through energy derived from waste by 2040.
