Barjeel, the Green Building Regulations of Ras Al Khaimah addresses new buildings and is the most important program of the Strategy in terms of its contribution to the overall energy savings targets. A one-year voluntary phase started on 29 January 2019, following which application of Barjeel is now mandatory for all new buildings.
Barjeel expresses minimum requirements across five categories
There are two levels of requirements in Barjeel, namely the fundamental and the comprehensive regulations. The fundamental regulations comprise few and simple requirements which are applicable for small buildings. The comprehensive regulations, on the other hand, comprise additional requirements for larger and more complex buildings.
30% savings in energy and water consumption in Barjeel-compliant buildings compared to business-as-usual construction practices, with an additional target to double these savings by 2040.
