The programme promotes low-carbon transportation through electrification, fuel switching and supportive infrastructure.
Reduction in transport emissions will be driven by:
Private light vehicle use will be discouraged through higher registration fees, parking fees and supporting public transport infrastructure. Low-carbon light vehicles will be incentivised through reduced fees (i.e., registration and others) and expanded charging infrastructure.
For heavy vehicles, low-carbon options will be promoted through fuel-efficiency standards, and operational restrictions. Pilots for biodiesel and hydrogen use in both light and heavy vehicles will be conducted before large-scale roll-out.
Most incentives and fee reforms will be federally led while new financing models for EV charging and hydrogen/biodiesel stations will be explored locally.
