The program aims to promote low-carbon transportation through electrification and fuel switch.
Emissions reduction in transport are expected from three drivers:
Individual light vehicle transport will be discouraged through higher registration fees, new parking fees and supporting public transport infrastructure. Low-carbon light vehicles will be incentivised with reduced registration and other fees and deployment of charging infrastructure.
Low-carbon heavy vehicles will be encouraged with new fuel-efficiency standards, and other operational restrictions. Biodiesel and H2 will be piloted in both light and heavy vehicles before large-scale roll-out.
Most incentives and fee adjustments will be federally led. New ways to finance EV charging or H2/biodiesel stations deployment and operations will be studied.
