Ras Al Khaimah Municipality offered patronage to the Energy Efficiency Seminar organised by the Danish Consulate General

H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality welcomed H.E. Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, Ambassador of Denmark in the UAE, and the Danish Green Building & Retrofitting Alliance.

Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, June17, 2019: Ras Al Khaimah Municipality offered patronage and participated in the energy efficiency seminar organised by the Danish Consulate General on how to build more cost-, energy- and environment-friendly buildings that are compliant with Barjeel, the Green Building Regulations of Ras Al Khaimah.

The event was attended by H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, H.E. Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, Ambassador of Denmark in the UAE and other senior officials from the Ras Al Khaimah government, in addition to executives from multiple companies in the energy sector.

Solution experts from leading Danish companies showed the benefits of different green building components and energy efficiency measures and opened up new channels of dialogue with Ras Al Khaimah government, in support to the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040. The Strategy, introduced by RAK Municipality earlier in 2018, targets 30% energy savings, 20% water savings, and 20% share from renewable energy by 2040 through a combination of 9 programs.

Barjeel, the Green Building Regulations program, was launched in January 2019 and promotes adoption of energy efficiency measures for new buildings. The seminar was also an occasion to recognize the first UAE citizen who adopted Barjeel for his new villa. Existing buildings are addressed by a separate retrofit program, through which RAK Municipality aims at retrofitting at least 3,000 buildings by 2040.
