Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, November 26, 2020: Ras Al Khaimah Municipality held a kick off meeting with representatives from over 50 governmental and private schools in Ras Al Khaimah to present a competition for students in the field of energy efficiency.
H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General at Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, said “The main aim of this initiative is to increase awareness of residents on the benefits of saving energy and water, by having students propose and showcase innovative ideas”.
Winning students will be awarded monetary prizes, short term internships at Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and the opportunity to display their innovative ideas at the RAK Energy Summit, an international conference and exhibition that will be held in Ras Al Khaimah in June 2020 with main focus on energy efficiency.
“The initiative is part of Ras Al Khaimah Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040, targeting 30% electricity savings, 20% water savings, and 20% generation from renewable energy by 2040. With such ambitious targets in front of us, participation of residents in our strategy is key, and we look at youth as a powerful engine to drive changes in consumption behaviors”, the Director General added.
The RAK ENERGY INNOVATION COMPETITION will start on January 12 and the deadline for student submissions is March 31, with selection of winners expected by May 2020. Interested schools are invited to contact Reem Office within RAK Municipality at info.eer@mun.rak.ae.
