Ras Al Khaimah Municipality organise​d a ​competition, approved by the UAE Ministry of Education, for school students in the field of energy efficiency. The main aim of this initiative was to promote innovation locally and engage students and their families to wo​rk on challenges and showcase their ideas to save electricity and water. The competition was split into two challenges, catering to all school cycles and allowed individual and team participation. Students could participate in several ways, through the creation of a photo album, poster, online tool (website, app, etc.). The competition commenced in January 2020 and ended in March with the winners selected in August. The submissions were preliminarily evaluated based on whether they addressed either one of the two challenges, if the participants were from the assigned age group and whether they described well how the challenge was conducted. The shortlisted submissions were then evaluated by esteemed judges from four government entities resulting in the selection of two winners and two runners-up. Winners and runners-up will be awarded monetary p​rizes, short-term internship opportunities at the Municipality and the opportunity to display their innovative ideas at RAK Energy Summit.​
