About Us

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality was established in 1959 by an Emiri decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, to facilitate the functioning of different authorities in the emirate such as the ports, land and traffic departments.

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the then Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, issued Resolution No. 5 of 2004 under the Municipal Law of the Year 1981 to enhance the organisational structure of the Municipality. This enabled the Municipality to keep pace with economic, urban, commercial and environmental developments taking place in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has since adopted modern systems by electronically linking all municipal departments to ensure quality and speed of procedures.

Message from the Director General

Ras Al Khaimah is undergoing a phase of significant development. Inspired by the vision of our leaders and in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, National Agenda 2021 and the Green Growth Strategy, the government of Ras Al Khaimah initiated a more structured approach to energy efficiency and sustainability.

Ras Al Khaimah Integrated Sustainability Strategy 2050 (RISS) 2050 will lead evolution of the economy towards lower energy intensity and a higher share of renewable energy in the supply mix, thus making Ras Al Khaimah more competitive across all sectors, and ready for the future decades of development.

From an institutional standpoint, in 2017, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality created a dedicated office (Reem) to drive, monitor and report on the implementation of the RISS Strategy. A committee was established to guide and support Reem, comprising the most important government entities participating in the RISS Strategy.

I would like to express my appreciation for the valuable support offered by our stakeholder entities. To our committee, to Reem and to all implementing entities my wish and recommendation is: make a difference and be practical.
