Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department has conducted another workshop to seek stakeholder feedback on proposed green building regulations for new developments in Ras Al Khaimah. The workshop involved a number of delegates from government and private organizations from concerned sectors in the UAE.
Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, May 08, 2018: “The Government of Ras Al Khaimah is working on a 2040 strategy for sustainability, with ambitious energy and water saving targets. The development and implementation of green building regulations constitute one of the most important programs in the strategy” H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar Al Zaabi, Director-General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department stated during his opening speech at the workshop.
The proposed regulations are expected to complement the recently updated building code of Ras Al Khaimah, with specific requirements for sustainability.
“Ras Al Khaimah is undergoing significant real estate development. Through the program, we want to ensure that the new buildings are developed in line with best practices for sustainability. Over the years, a more energy efficient building stock will reduce costs for residents and businesses, and therefore contribute to the positioning of Ras Al Khaimah as a competitive destination for investments and people.” he added.
Discussion panels took place aiming to evaluate specific regulatory requirements and approaches addressing different areas of sustainability of new buildings, including energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, materials & resources, comfort & well-being.
“Stakeholders have been engaged from the early stages of development of the green building regulations, and we have received valuable feedback which we have incorporated in our approach. This is meant to ensure that the upcoming regulation addresses stakeholder needs, and finds smooth implementation” he added.
“The Municipality team will complete the consultation process, and liaise with other relevant government authorities to prepare for implementation as soon as the regulation is approved”, H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar Al Zaabi concluded.
At the end of the workshop, a thank you message was delivered to participating entities, in recognition of their effective participation in the development of the RAK Green Building Regulations.
