‘Ras Al Khaimah Government considers energy efficiency and adoption of renewable energy as important drivers for the competitiveness and sustainability of our economy’ - Munther Mohammed bin Shekar
Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, October 23, 2018: Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has officially started a project for the implementation of an Energy Management System aligned with international standard ISO50001, meant to establish a consistent and comprehensive approach to energy efficiency throughout the entire RAK Municipality organization. The project is expected to be completed by the second half of 2019.
For this purpose, a contract has been awarded to Energy Services Ltd, an international energy consultancy providing expert energy advisory services to clients around the world, headquartered in Ireland.
This constitutes the first pilot project for the Energy Management Program, coordinated by the Energy Efficiency and Renewables Office (REEM) within RAK Municipality. The Program is part of the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040, established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, which targets 30% energy savings, 20% water savings, and 20% generation from renewable energy sources by 2040.
His Excellency Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of RAK Municipality, said: “The Government of Ras Al Khaimah is committed to the successful implementation of the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040. Implementation of the Energy Management Program will help build up capabilities locally which will allow to achieve continuous improvement in our energy consumption. This project of RAK Municipality is a first step, and our intention is to support similar projects in other government entities and other main energy consumers in Ras Al Khaimah."
Earlier during the year, the Ras Al Khaimah Government had made significant steps in the field of energy efficiency, including among others the activation of a 2040 Strategy, the development of Barjeel, the green building standards for new buildings, the launch of the Retrofit Program for existing buildings and incentive measures to support the initial adoption of electric vehicles.
